Diabetes is the fastest growing risk factor for cardiovascular
disease. The number of people, which has tripled over the last three
decades, is equal to 7% of the American population. More concerning is
that one-third of those with diabetes are unaware they have the
disease—a disease that leads to cardiac conditions, stroke, blindness
and loss of limbs.
The good news is that diabetes is controllable and preventable.
Knowing your risk profile will enable you to take control of your health
and provide you with the best defense against diabetes.
The Parrish Diabetes Education Program teaches the skills necessary for
effective diabetes self-management. The center gives support to the
patient and his or her family. A certified diabetes educator coordinates
the program that follows national standards set by the American
Diabetes Association. PMC offers a four-week rotation of Diabetes Group
Classes and support groups at Parrish Medical Center in Titusville and
the Parrish Healthcare Center at Port St. John.
Please consult our PMC
calendar for class dates and times, and support group meetings.
